One Tree Hill

Since I love television and this is interior design blog I have been trying to think of ways to mix the two together so I get a bit of both. So I am going to make blogs about different rooms featured on my favourite television shows as well as different artwork!

So for this blog post I am going to talk about Peyton's bedroom from One Tree Hill! Peyton's room has always been one of my favourite rooms that I have ever seen on television. It is just so cool. The room's main colours are black and red which can be very strong but they look great for her room.  

Another thing that I really love about Peyton's room is all of her original artwork. She is an amazing artist and her art usually has a message behind it. I also really like the colours that she uses. Her art usually has red white and black in it but sometimes has other colours when necessary.

I really love this mural, I love all of the people just starring out at you. You don't know their stories, you don't know why they are all in a big group together but they are. Eventually she paints the world population on top of the mural in red paint. 

Another thing that I love about Peyton's room is all of her music. Her room is filled with shelves and shelves of records which I think is pretty cool considering most teenagers only listen to their iPods. The picture is a little pixelated but some of her record shelves are featured in the picture. Her shelves are black to match her colour scheme.

Later on as the show progresses Peyton's changes her room and she paints a dog on the wall behind her bed. The dog gives the room an even safer feeling because it is a bull dog which many people use as a guard dog. The white walls are a little boring but she still adds a bright and bold colour with the bed spread!

If I were to redo my room I would probably try to style if after Peyton's because there is something about it that is so dark and strong but at the same time so beautiful and safe. My favourite version of her room is shown in the third picture in this blog post but I still love all of the different versions!

Lamps

This lamp is going to be all about lighting,

My first lamp is a DIY lamp that I found on www.seventeen.com!

PARISIAN BOUDOIR:What you'll need: One can of spray paint primer (find it at a local hardware store) One can of hot pink spray paint and one can of light pink spray paint Two pairs of fishnet stockings—you will use only one, but it’s a good idea to have an extra on hand in case the first pair rips! Fabric glue One yard of thin, hot pink velvet ribbon Three yards of medium-width light pink velvet ribbon Newspapers and plastic covering to shield the floor and walls of the area where you’ll be working

How to make it:

1. Spray the entire lamp base (but not the underneath part where the cord connects) with one coat of primer. Wait about 30 minutes until it’s dry, then, spray paint the lamp base the hot pink color. Wait about 15 minutes for it to dry, then apply a second coat.
2. Spray paint the lampshade the light pink color. Wait about 15 minutes for it to dry, then apply a second coat.
3. Take the fishnet stockings and wrap the widest part over the entire shade. (This is the part that would normally cover your torso if you were wearing them!) Once you’ve pulled the waistband down over the shade and covered it with the tights so that there is even spacing of the diamond pattern throughout, cut the top part that is still attached to the tights with plenty of room to spare (at least six inches). Glue the bottom waistband inside the shade, and pull the top part of the cut-off tights inside the lamp and glue it neatly around the edge of the shade. Let dry for one hour.
4. Trim both outer edges of the lampshade with the wider light pink velvet ribbon by gluing in place with the fabric glue. Let dry 30 minutes.
5. Make a small bow with the thin hot pink velvet and attach it to the bottom trimming with fabric glue. Using scissors, trim any excess pantyhose visible past the light pink ribbon on the top of the shade.

I really like this lamp because it is bright and fun!

Lamps are some of the most important part of design because without good lighting how you design your room really doesn't matter. Lighting is something that really helps set the mood of a room. Darker lighting can make a room feel more mysterious or romantic but brighter lighting can make a room feel fun and awake. Lighting is crucial to all interior design.

The next thing I am going to talk about is candle holders because they are another type of lighting. The first candle holder I am going to talk about it from Ikea and it is from the HERRÄNG line and is designed by Anne Nilsson. This candle holder is very fun and young so it would be great for college students or people who have very modern taste. I also like this lamp because it is very bright and eye catching. Though I listed reasons why I like this lamp I personally wouldn't buy it. But if you would like to purchase it it costs $19.99.

The next set of candle holders are also from Ikea, in the MJÖNÄS and are designed by Matz Borgström. These candle holders are in packages of 3 and they have 3 different colour per package. In one package they have pink, magenta and red and in the second package they have two different shades of blue and a green. Each package costs $3.99. I really like these candle holders just because they are really cute and small but at the same time they are bright and colourful.

The last candle holder is also from Ikea, part of the BLOMSTER and is designed by P Amsell/B Wesslander. I don't know if I really like this lamp but I chose it because it is one of the more sophisticated options. This product is made out of pure glass. This isn't really my style but it is something you may find in an adult's house. If you like this candle holder it costs $19.99.

Office Desks

This post is going to be all about office desks! I think that one of the most important things in an office is the desk because depending on the size and shape of the office you have different options. Another reason why desks are important is because you need the right size of desk for you. If the desk is too small it may be hard to work in such a cramped space. All of the desks featured in this blog are going to be from Ikea!

The first desk I have chosen is the Expedit Desk Combination and it is designed by Tord Björklund/IKEA of Sweden. It is in the same line of items as one of the bookcases I mentioned in my second blog post all about bookcases. The Expedit Desk Combination has adjustable feet so it can stand steadily on uneven surfaces. I can take or leave this desk. I like the idea of it having a bookcase attached to it but at the same time I think it looks a little awkward. I don't think that some of the bookcase shelves are that practical either, why would you climb under the desk to take books in and out? This desk comes in white, black-brown and birch. It costs $149.99.

The next desk is called the Micke Workstation designed by Henrik Preutz.
Some positive things about this desk:

• Cable outlets and compartment in the back keeps cords and cables out of sight but close at hand.
• Opening in the lower back panel improves ventilation around your CPU or other computer equipment.
• Back panel with magnetic writing board helps clears space on your desk.
• Side panels on the top shelf keep books, CDs and DVDs in place.
• The adjustable shelf inside the storage compartment can easily be removed to make space for a computer.
•   The storage unit can be mounted to the right or left according to need

I think that this desk is somewhat ugly looking. I don't like the white with the other colours. I prefer something simple or with darker colours. But if you like this desk, it comes in white and orange, white and birch or black-brown and white and costs $139.99.

The third bookcase I am going to show is the Lasse Desk With Bookcase. It is designed by Henrik Preutz. This bookcase is very simple which is nice but I'm not sure if I like the bookcase attached to it. I think the bookcase attached looks odd and unnatural. Another thing I don't like about the Lasse is that it doesn't have a lot of drawers, it only has one in the middle. It does have adjustable shelves which adjust according to need which is nice though.

 

The last desk I am going to show you is also part of the Micke line, it is a corner desk which is nice if you don't have a lot of space and want to utilize a corner.

Some features are:

• Top shelf with cable outlet; space efficient storage for a printer, etc
• Cable outlets and compartment in the back keeps cords and cables out of sight but close at hand
• Back panel with magnetic writing board helps clears space on your desk
• Side panels on the top shelf keep books, CDs and DVDs in place.
• The drawers hold A4 and letter size paper.
• The legs can be mounted to the right or left according to need

Though this is very similar to the other Micke desk in this blog I like this one better because of the corner aspect of it. I still don't like the colours but this desk is probably the one that I like the best out of all of the desks featured in this blog. The Micke comes in birch and white or black-brown and white and costs $199.99.

Though none of these desks were my favourite there were things on all of them that I liked.

Planet Java Fifties Cafe

Last year when I went to Fort Langley on the Socials 9 field trip, some friends and I walked through town and decided to stop at Planet Java Fifties Cafe. I am a total sucker for anything from the 50's so this is the perfect diner for me.

I really like the interior of this diner, you never run out of things to look at. Though some people may think it is a little busy I do not! I think that it is so cool that they have all of these things from a totally different time period. One of my favourite things in the diner is the table sized juke boxes. They are so fun, interesting and totally 50's. I also like the artwork on the walls, there are cool posters and pictures everywhere. Though this is an interior design blog I am still going to comment on the food. My friends and I ordered milkshakes and hamburgers and they were SO good!

Some differences between residential and restaurant design is that you have to think a lot more about traffic patterns than in residential design. You have to talk to the chef, waitress, hostess and bus people to figure out what traffic pattern would work best for everyone. You also have to consider that the walking space would have to be wider because the staff would be carrying trays. Another thing you have to think about is in case of an emergency how would everyone be able to get out of the restaurant.

This diner is one of my favrourite places to go just because of the cool design. I really love the retro feel of the place, it's like you've been taken back to the 50's.

Hotel

My blog is about the Westin Resort and Spa in Whislter. This hotel has nine different types or rooms, all have varying prices, from $159.00 to $739.00 per night. This hotel is classified as a 4.5 star hotel.

The lobby is beautiful, it has stone, wood and tile on the walls. There is a nice fireplace with an area of chairs set up around it so people can sit by the fire. The red curtains and the cushions really match the wood, stone and tiles. It is nice to have a little bit of colour in the room. I think this lobby is amazing, it really suits Whistler. I also really like the big window on the back wall, it would be great because of the beautiful view. I also really like the lamps on the tables they are really funky and cool. The only thing that I don't really like are the plants. They don't really match the location of the hotel. If I wanted to put plants in the room, I would try and find something that matched the location of the hotel or just put in plain flowers.

The junior suite is one of the cheaper suites and it either has two queen beds or a single queen bed and a sofa bed making the maximum occupancy four. The room comes with Cable TV, Climate control, Direct dial phones, Fireplace (gas), Full kitchen, Iron/ironing board, Personal Safe, Soaker tub, Sofa bed, Valley view, Voicemail, Windows that open and a Work desk. I think that this room is very nice but the one thing I don't like about it is a lack of colour. If the walls had to be neutral I would add a colourful bed spread, maybe one with a little of green in it to match the tile on the right.












The next room is the one bedroom suite. This room also has an occupancy of four. It has Cable TV, Climate control, Direct dial phones, Fireplace (gas), Full kitchen, Iron/ironing board, Personal Safe, Separate shower, Soaker tub, Sofa bed, Valley view, Voicemail, Windows that open, Work desk. I think that this room works really well, it has a little bit of colour, neutrals and some cool materials. The only thing I would change about this room is to add more colours, though it has a little I think it could use a little more.










The last suite is a two bedroom suite. It has a king bed, queen bed and a queen sofa bed, which gives it a maximum occupancy of six. It has Cable TV, Climate control, Direct dial phones, Fireplace (gas), Full kitchen, Iron/ironing board, Personal Safe, Separate shower, Soaker tub, Sofa bed, Valley view, Voicemail, Windows that open, Work desk. This room is a little more upscale than the previous two rooms I showed you. Though it doesn't have any colour it is still really nice but once again if I had to change something I would just add more colour. 














The last thing I am going to show you is the pool. It is BEAUTIFUL! I think that it is really cool because you can swim in an area inside and an area outside. It also has an indoor and an outdoor hot tub which is nice for winter. I love to swim and to have options of where I want to spend time in the pool is really great. This pool is very pretty looking and I wouldn't change anything about it.

Table Lamps

Today's post is going to be about table lamps. As usual all of the lamps will be from Ikea and range in prices.

The first lamp is the FILLSTA designed by Gunner Jensen. It is a small table lamp in the shape of a circle. It has a very original texture/pattern but I personally think it is ugly. It is said to give off a good amount of light but I'm not sure if it really would because it is quite small. This lamp comes in white and orange and costs $29.99.

The three lamps are part of the KNUBBIG line. They are designed by Michiko Nakata. These lamps are all made of mouth blown glass with a design on them, each of these lamps is unique there are no two lamps the same. These aren't typical lamps, they are all in the shape of an old fashion fish bowl. These lamps are said to give off soft light which helps to enhance the mood. Like the past lamp I think these are ugly, if I wanted a fish bowl as a lamp I would make one myself. But if you like these lamps they come in three different sizes, the first one comes in purple, green and white and is $11.99. The next one is a little bigger than the last and only comes in purple for $18.99. The final lamp in the KNUBBIG line comes in green, black and white and a frosted white for $18.99.

The third type of lamp I am going to talk about is the IKEA 365+ BRASA which is designed by A Nilsson/H Preutz/T Eliasson. This lamp is very simple looking but I like it. It has a rounded shade/top and a thin pole holding the shade up and a circular base.  This lamp has a dimmer function to adjust the light intensity according to your need. It also has a plastic inner casing which helps to prevents glare and directed light which gives a comfortable reading light. This lamp comes in black and white. The only thing I don't like about this lamp is the price it is $99.99 which I think is expensive for a lamp that looks this simple.

The final lamp is  part of the ALÄNG collection which is designed by IKEA of Sweden. This lamp has a small square base, a thin pole holding the shade and then the shade on top. The shade on this lamp has a really cool texture! Another cool thing about this lamp is that the height can be adjusted, it has a little knob that you can move to change the height. This lamp costs $24.99.

 

Storage System

For this blog I am going to talk about an organizer. So for my organizer I picked the Ikea Pax Wardrobe System! I know that it's not the most original idea but it sticks with my theme of Ikea products. All of the Pax wardrobe systems are designed by Ikea of Sweden.

The first one I am going to talk about is the Pax Corner Wardrobe. This wardrobe is really cool because it can fit in a corner. It has adjustable, self-closing hinges making the corner wardrobe both good-looking and practical. It also has adjustable feet for high stability. It comes in white black-brown and birch. This wardrobe costs $450.

The next wardrobe is the Pax Wardrobe with Sliding Doors. This one doesn't have to go in a corner it can go on any wall you chose. The sliding doors demand less space when open than a standard wardrobe door. Which is good if you have a smaller room. This wardrobe has adjustable feet for high stability. It's frame colours come in black-brown, white and birch effect. It costs $649 for this wardrobe.

The next wardrobe is a Pax Wardrobe With Two Doors. This wardrobe is a little bit smaller which is good if you don't have a lot of clothes or a smaller room. It like the others has adjustable feet for high stability. This wardrobe also comes in more colours than the previous two, it comes in black-brown, birch white and gray. This one is also a little cheaper than the rest at only $280.

All of these wardrobes are great but they may not be what you need. Maybe you have a very small room and having a wardrobe takes up too much space. These would really help someone who's closet is overflowing with clothes or is extremely messy. Overall these are great wardrobes that most people would benefit from.
